David Warburton…

David WarburtonDavid Warburton was born in Swaziland, Southern Africa. Raised in a remote suburb of Johannesburg with few playmates in reach, he spent long hours in the extensive lush African/English gardens of his parents' home as the gardeners shadow and friend.

Later in North America, David apprenticed to a landscaper in another spectacular setting, the Adirondacks, where he learned his trade and fell in love with the vernacular of that region.

An Artist's Love of Nature!

Later still, David studied painting at the Ontario College of Art. After graduation the owner of a property in Adjala, based on his artist training, asked David to render a landscape design for her property. The concept was accepted and David's career as a gardener/designer began. He planted the client's house, horse farm and city property. After another two years in-house on a large property in Caledon, he established Plantsmen.

Working on a succession of large country properties, David has had the opportunity to plan and plant every kind of garden;

  • herbaceous
  • herb
  • bog
  • water
  • orchard
  • woodland
  • ornamental kitchen

Along the way his gardens have been featured in In the Hills, Gardening Life, Canadian Gardening, Victoria Magazine, Canadian House and Home, and on TV in Garden Architecture and Mark Cullen's Gardening show. Most recently David's home garden was the subject of a 6-page feature article in Country Living magazine, a venerable US based publication with worldwide distribution.

David currently lives in Hockley Valley with his wife, two children, his dogs and a list of future animal acquisitions. This year he's very excited to introduce you to his two newest endeavours: Hockley Organics and Nottawasaga Trading Co.
